FAQs
Q: How do I enroll my child or request a school transfer?
A: It is possible to enroll in a designated neighborhood school online or in person. In case your child needs to go to another school and there is a desire to do it, you can choose the transfer system within the district or in the form of a lottery (or rather, quite often they occur once a year).
Q: How does the school lottery and waitlist system work?
A: A lottery system is applied in the cases of specialized programs or sought-after schools with limited capacity. In case of non-selection, students are put on a waitlist and can be given an opportunity in case space opens up.
Q: Is transportation provided for students?
A: Yes, Portland schools have bus transportation for those students living at a particular distance from their schools. There can also be special transportation to particular programs or catalysts of the special education services.
Q: What do I need to volunteer or visit a school?
A: Each of the visitors and volunteers should report to the school office with a photo ID issued by the government. A visitor or volunteer badge is required 24X7 on the campus.
Q: How can parents stay informed and communicate with the school?
A: The mobile applications, such as ParentVUE, and those that are provided in the classroom, can be used by parents to be updated on attendance, grades, and school information, or even send a message to their teachers. The updates are also delivered via regular email newsletters and school websites.
