The educational system of the city of Baltimore, Maryland, is functioning through the Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS). Having the mission to deliver quality education to each child, the district has more than 150 schools, such as elementary schools, high schools, middle schools, and charter schools. It is a school system with over 75,000 students of different backgrounds whose focus is academic achievement, social responsibility, and equality. BCPS is famous for its innovative programs, such as career and technical education, early college access, and arts integration, the programs that help students prepare them both for college and the workforce. It is managed by a board of commissioners and is headed by a CEO who directly operates on day-to-day management, curriculum development, and strategies for improving schools.

Our school calendar helps us balance the instructional time on the basis of state standard requirements and consider accommodations for holidays, professional development, and breaks. During the 2025-2026 academic year, students start the academic year in late August and finish in the middle of June, with planned Thanksgiving, winter holidays, and spring recess. BCPS makes use of early dismissal days, workdays of the teachers, and observance of federal holidays. The district is particularly keen on academic success, student health, and family support, with support services and extra-curricular activities provided all year round to enable students to develop and to ensure community participation.
