The educational system of the city of Baltimore, Maryland, is functioning through the Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS). Having the mission to deliver quality education to each child, the district has more than 150 schools, such as elementary schools, high schools, middle schools, and charter schools. It is a school system with over 75,000 students of different backgrounds whose focus is academic achievement, social responsibility, and equality. BCPS is famous for its innovative programs, such as career and technical education, early college access, and arts integration, the programs that help students prepare them both for college and the workforce. It is managed by a board of commissioners and is headed by a CEO who directly operates on day-to-day management, curriculum development, and strategies for improving schools.
Our school calendar helps us balance the instructional time on the basis of state standard requirements and consider accommodations for holidays, professional development, and breaks. During the 20252026 academic year, students start the academic year in late August and finish in the middle of June with planned Thanksgiving, winter holidays, and spring recess. BCPS makes use of early dismissal days, workdays of the teachers, and observance of federal holidays. The district is particularly keen on academic success, student health, and family support, with support services and extra-curricular activities provided all year round to enable students to develop and to ensure community participation.

FAQs
Q: How do I report a maintenance or facilities issue at my child’s school?
A: Call the school’s main office or the facility department of the district to cite the concerns, such as heating issues, plumbing, or building repairs. They will develop a work order and provide priorities on issues concerning safety.
Q: What is the new student cell phone policy for 2025–2026?
A: The students are allowed to carry phones to school, but they should be switched off and placed somewhere during the teaching period. It aims at reducing distractions and encouraging concentration in the classroom.
Q: What are the high school graduation requirements starting in 2025?
A: Graduation requirements are also based upon more current Maryland state guidelines defining required hours of defined courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and elective courses. The students have to achieve service learning and compulsory examinations.
Q: What is the district’s attendance policy, and how can families get support?
A: Students who drop 10 percent of school days are regarded as chronically absent. The families who have issues regarding transport, uniforms, or any other obstacles are welcome to call the attendance support staff in the district.
Q: How can families provide feedback on school policies or changes?
A: The Board of School Commissioners also accepts information regarding new policies. The feedback may be given at a board meeting, or email, or it can be filed on the comments posted at the time of public review.
